Garry Kasparov’s Opinion on the Upcoming Chess Match

Garry Kasparov has shared his opinion regarding the forthcoming chess match between Gukesh and Ding Liren, stating that it should not be classified as a World Chess Championship match due to the absence of Magnus Carlsen, whom he considers the current top player. Kasparov highlighted that traditionally, the purpose of a World Championship match is to identify the world’s best chess player, a standard he feels is not fulfilled in this upcoming match. He acknowledged the significance of the match and its recognition as an FIDE event, but he reiterated that it does not serve the historical objective of determining the best chess player on the globe.
