Jyoti produced a standout display to secure India’s lone gold medal at World Boxing Cup 2, defeating Uzbekistan’s Farzona Fozilova in the 48kg final on Sunday. Jyoti won by a 5-0 unanimous decision, capping India’s best result of the day as the team added three more medals from final appearances.
Alongside Jyoti’s title, India collected three silver medals across women’s and men’s bouts, taking the overall medal count to six at the event. The day’s results underlined India’s depth across multiple weight categories, with four boxers reaching finals and two others already assured of bronze earlier in the competition.
Jyoti dominates 48kg final for India’s only gold
In the 48kg championship bout, Jyoti outclassed Farzona Fozilova of Uzbekistan, winning 5-0 on unanimous decision to clinch the top prize. The win delivered India’s only gold medal at World Boxing Cup 2.
Fozilova entered the final as the reigning World Boxing Cup Brazil gold medallist, but Jyoti controlled the contest on the judges’ scorecards from start to finish. The clean sweep decision highlighted the clarity of the verdict and ensured India finished the tournament with a gold medal to headline its tally.
Jyoti’s triumph also stood out amid a series of tough finals for Indian boxers, with three other title bouts ending in 0-5 defeats. Even so, those runs still converted into silver medals and helped build a strong overall haul.
Minakshi, Prachi and Deepak settle for silver in finals
India’s first silver of the day came through Minakshi in the 51kg final. Minakshi, who is the World No. 1 in 48kg and competed in a higher weight category, finished runner-up after losing 0-5 to China’s Wu Yu in the title bout.
Prachi added another silver in the women’s 57kg final. She went down 0-5 to Uzbekistan’s Nigina Uktamova, ending her campaign with a second-place finish after what the report described as an otherwise impressive run through the tournament.
In the men’s category, Deepak earned silver in the 70kg final. He lost 0-5 to Kazakhstan’s Ablaikhan Zhussupov, completing India’s set of three silver medals from the finals.
India finish with six medals: 1 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze
With Jyoti’s gold and the three silvers from Minakshi, Prachi and Deepak, India’s overall tally at World Boxing Cup 2 reached six medals. Earlier in the tournament, India had already confirmed two bronze medals through Jugnoo (85kg) and Nikhil (55kg).
The final count stood at one gold, three silver and two bronze, reflecting multiple deep runs across both women’s and men’s divisions. While the finals produced mixed outcomes, India’s ability to place boxers in four title bouts and secure additional podium finishes ensured a substantial medal return from the event.
