Genesis Scottish Open and Rory McIlroy in Golf action

Rory McIlroy will headline the 2026 Genesis Scottish Open field, with World No.1 Scottie Scheffler also confirmed for the PGA Tour and DP World Tour co-sanctioned event at The Renaissance Club.

The tournament is positioned as a key tune-up ahead of The Open Championship, and the early field list underlines that status. Alongside McIlroy and Scheffler, defending champion Chris Gotterup is set to return as he looks to become the first back-to-back winner in the event’s history, while home favourite Robert MacIntyre (the 2024 winner) is also listed.

Star names confirmed for The Renaissance Club

The Genesis Scottish Open traditionally attracts a strong mix of PGA Tour and DP World Tour talent, and the 2026 edition appears set to follow that pattern. The field includes major winners Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick, Brooks Koepka, Shane Lowry, Aaron Rai, Xander Schauffele, JJ Spaun and Justin Thomas.

Ryder Cup figures Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Aberg are also among the notable names, adding further depth to a lineup that already features multiple recent winners and established contenders.

McIlroy, who won the Genesis Scottish Open in 2023, returns to a tournament that has become an increasingly important stop on the calendar for players preparing for the season’s final major.

LIV Golf contingent includes Rahm and Hatton

One of the most significant storylines in the 2026 Genesis Scottish Open field is the presence of several LIV Golf players, led by two-time major winner Jon Rahm.

Because the Scottish Open is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, DP World Tour members are eligible to play. The source notes that Rahm paid his outstanding fines related to joining LIV Golf in order to return to the DP World Tour, and that he must play in five events in 2026 to remain eligible for the Ryder Cup. Rahm is set to tee it up in Scotland and later this year.

Rahm will not be the only LIV golfer at The Renaissance Club. His Legion XIII teammate Tyrrell Hatton is also in the field, meaning both Rahm and Hatton are set to play a PGA Tour event again for the first time since the 2023 Tour Championship and 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii, respectively.

Additional LIV Golf names listed for the Genesis Scottish Open include David Puig, Laurie Canter, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk and Victor Perez, continuing a recent trend of LIV players appearing in DP World Tour events.

The source also notes that Joaquin Niemann has played in the Open d’Italia and BMW International Open, while Sergio Garcia, Carlos Ortiz, Martin Kaymer, Jose Luis Ballester, Elvis Smylie, Branden Grace, Thomas Detry and Abraham Ancer have featured in at least one of those events.

Scottish Open sets the stage for The Open at Royal Birkdale

The Genesis Scottish Open’s place on the schedule makes it a natural springboard into The Open Championship, which follows the week after at Royal Birkdale.

As of writing, the source states that 12 LIV golfers will play at Royal Birkdale for The Open, and that Scheffler will look to defend his Claret Jug there on July 16-19.

With McIlroy and Scheffler leading the way, a defending champion returning, and a LIV contingent headlined by Rahm and Hatton, the 2026 Genesis Scottish Open field shapes up as one of the most notable pre-Open gatherings of the season.
