Indian triple jumper Selva Prabhu is set to make his senior debut at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, a major step in a career that has moved from age-group success to competing among elite fields. The 21-year-old, a World U20 silver medallist and NCAA champion, will represent India at his first senior multi-sport Games with a clear focus: deliver his best performance and gain experience against top international athletes.

Selva described the opportunity as both a personal milestone and a responsibility that comes with wearing the national colours. “It’s a huge honour to represent India at my first senior multi-sport Games. I’ve dreamed about wearing the Indian jersey on a stage like this for many years. I’m proud to have this opportunity, and my goal is to give my best, make my country proud, and gain valuable experience competing against some of the world’s best athletes,” he said.

NCAA experience shapes Selva Prabhu’s build-up to Glasgow 2026

Selva has spent the past few years competing in the NCAA circuit in the United States, and he believes that environment has played a defining role in his development. With frequent high-level meets and strong weekly competition, he credits the system for sharpening multiple parts of his game.

“Competing in the NCAA has helped me grow in every aspect. The level of competition is very high, so it pushes me to improve technically, physically, and mentally. Training with great coaches and competing against world-class athletes every week has made me more confident and prepared for international competitions,” Selva said.

As he turns his attention to the Commonwealth Games, Selva’s approach is rooted in process rather than prediction. He acknowledged that the standard in men’s triple jump continues to rise internationally, but he is keeping his goals centred on execution and confidence.

“The competition is very strong, which motivates me even more. My goal is to perform at my best and compete with confidence. If I execute my jumps well, I know I can produce a good result. A performance close to my personal best or better, while giving everything I have, would leave me satisfied,” he added.

That emphasis on execution is also reflected in his training priorities. Selva said consistency has been the biggest focus in the lead-up, with attention on speed, technique, and rhythm across the phases of the triple jump.

“My main focus has been improving my speed, consistency, and technique. Triple jump is all about putting everything together on the day. My coach and I have worked hard on maintaining rhythm throughout the approach and phases, while also making sure I’m physically strong and healthy,” he said.

Alongside his competitive and technical progression, Selva also highlighted the support structure behind his preparations. He acknowledged the role of the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in backing his journey towards Glasgow, pointing to the range of services that have helped him stay focused on development.

“IIS has been a big part of my journey. They’ve supported me with training, sports science, recovery, and overall athlete development. Their belief in me has allowed me to focus on improving every day. I’m grateful for their support, and I hope to repay that trust with strong performances for India,” Selva said.

What Selva Prabhu wants from his first senior multi-sport Games

For Selva, Glasgow 2026 represents more than a debut—it is a chance to translate steady progress into performance on one of the biggest stages of his career. His comments underline a mindset built around preparation and delivering on the day, while also valuing the learning that comes from competing in a senior multi-sport environment.

As India’s athletics contingent prepares for the Commonwealth Games, Selva will aim to bring together the elements he has worked on—speed, rhythm, consistency, and confidence—while measuring success through the quality of his execution and how close he can get to his best level when it matters most.
