Prasidh 5-for, Jaiswal 110* as India sweep Afghanistan 3-0

Prasidh Krishna’s maiden ODI five-for set up a nine-wicket win as Yashasvi Jaiswal’s unbeaten 110 sealed India’s 3-0 series sweep over Afghanistan

India completed a 3-0 sweep of their ODI series against Afghanistan after Prasidh Krishna’s maiden five-wicket haul and an unbeaten century from Yashasvi Jaiswal powered a nine-wicket win in the third ODI in Chennai on June 20, 2026.

Afghanistan were bowled out for 218 despite Hashmatullah Shahidi’s maiden ODI hundred, and India made light work of the chase, reaching 224 for 1 in 28.4 overs. Prasidh finished with 5/23 to earn Player of the Match, while Shubman Gill was named Player of the Series with 238 runs.

Prasidh’s early burst, then a late collapse around Shahidi

Afghanistan, after winning the toss and choosing to bat, found early conditions challenging with swing and extra bounce. Prasidh struck quickly as Rahmanullah Gurbaz edged a drive to first slip, and Rahmat Shah followed with a leading edge while attempting a leg-side flick. Ibrahim Zadran fell in similar fashion, with Rohit Sharma taking the catches at first slip.

Prasidh maintained control through an opening spell that read 5-2-6-4. When Darwish Rasooli tried to hit him off his length, the attempt ended in a skied drive that Shreyas Iyer held running back from cover, leaving Afghanistan 36 for 4.

Azmatullah Omarzai began the recovery by striking four boundaries between overs 11 and 14, while Shahidi, initially uncomfortable against the bouncer, found a release with a pulled boundary off Prince Yadav. India’s allrounder-heavy attack then took a significant share of the middle overs: Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar and Harsh Dubey combined to bowl 21 overs for 103 runs and one wicket.

Reddy and Dubey were introduced after 15 overs, and the scoring rate lifted with regular boundaries. Dubey was taken off after Shahidi hit him for a four and a six, but Shahidi and Omarzai continued to build, bringing up their fifties two overs apart and completing a century partnership in between.

Prince’s return changed the momentum when Omarzai hooked a bouncer straight to deep fine leg, ending his innings and a key stand. Shahidi then added 57 with Mohammad Nabi and increasingly overcame his early issues against the short ball; by the 36th over he had collected five boundaries through pulls and ramps. During this period, he also received a second warning for running on the pitch.

Afghanistan’s innings turned sharply late. Nabi, set up for the bouncer, was bowled by Gurnoor Brar, and the situation worsened when Shahidi ran on the danger area again at the end of the 40th over, resulting in a five-run penalty and a loss of strike. Afghanistan then lost three wickets in the next seven balls: Rashid Khan holed out to deep cover off Dubey, AM Ghazanfar was run out as Shahidi tried to keep the strike, and Fareed Ahmad was run out first ball of the next over after a non-existent single, with Gill effecting his second run out in two balls.

From 203 for 6, Afghanistan slipped to 206 for 9, putting Shahidi’s hundred in jeopardy. Ziaur Rahman survived five deliveries, and Shahidi faced 11 of the next 12 balls to reach his century off 128 balls. He was eventually dismissed pulling a Prasidh bouncer to deep midwicket, and Afghanistan were all out with 28 balls unused.

Jaiswal’s century seals a rapid chase after a chaotic start

India began their chase with an unusual boost: Shahidi ran on the danger area of the pitch three times, conceding a five-run penalty, meaning India started at 5 without a ball being bowled. The first over from Omarzai then exploded to 26 runs, featuring three fours, two no-balls and a wide, and India were immediately ahead of the required rate.

Rohit Sharma had a couple of early scares. In the third over, he top-edged a pull off Fareed Ahmad; the ball went behind the wicket and Rahmanullah Gurbaz couldn’t reach it in time, instead kicking it over the boundary. Then, in the sixth, Rohit cut Ziaur Rahman to deep third, where Fareed—blinded by the lights—let go of what the report described as a “dolly.”

After those moments, India’s openers took control. Rohit and Jaiswal put on a 170-run opening stand, striking 11 fours and two sixes in an 81-run powerplay. Jaiswal, who has been dismissed playing the cut, edged one through slip but otherwise scored heavily behind point and reached his fifty in the 12th over. Rohit brought up his half-century in the 16th.

Rohit then attacked Rashid Khan, hitting three fours and a pulled six as India cruised past 150 in the 21st over. Soon after, Nabi offered a long hop, but Rohit’s pull found deep midwicket, ending his innings on 79.

Shreyas Iyer, promoted to No. 3, played with freedom—at one point swinging so hard he threw his bat in the 24th over—while Jaiswal nearly holed out to deep cover in the 26th. The finish came quickly: Jaiswal and Shreyas took 19 off Fareed, and Jaiswal began the final over with a six to bring up his second ODI hundred. He then closed the chase with another six and a four, finishing unbeaten on 110 as India won with 128 balls remaining.
