India to Host Panama in September Friendly Before Brazil Test

India will host Panama in an international friendly on September 26 during the FIFA men’s international window, the All India Football Federation has announced. The venue for the match is yet to be confirmed, but the fixture gives the Indian national football team a scheduled test against a side that featured at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The Panama match is set to be India’s first meeting with the CONCACAF nation. It is also scheduled to be the first of four matches for India against teams that played at this summer’s World Cup, making the September date an important starting point in a demanding run of international fixtures.

Panama fixture opens India’s World Cup opposition schedule

Panama are ranked 44th in the latest FIFA standings, according to the announcement. They featured at the 2026 World Cup, where they finished last in a group containing England, Croatia and Ghana.

For India, the game will mark only the ninth different CONCACAF opponent the team has faced. The match therefore carries significance beyond a single friendly, offering a first matchup against Panama as the national side prepares for further scheduled meetings with World Cup participants.

The All India Football Federation said the match will take place on September 26 in the FIFA men’s international window. A venue will be announced later. With the date now set, India have clarity on the opening fixture in a sequence that includes matches against Brazil and New Zealand.

India are slated to play Brazil on October 3. They are then scheduled to meet New Zealand on November 12 and November 15. The Panama fixture comes before those dates and is positioned as an early challenge for Khalid Jamil’s side.

AIFF Deputy Secretary General M Satyanarayan described the Panama match as a demanding assignment ahead of the Brazil game. “Playing against Panama will be a tough battle ahead of the Brazil game. Panama are a top-50 team in the world, and it will be a good test for Khalid Jamil’s boys,” Satyanarayan said.

His comments underline the value the federation places on the forthcoming international window. Panama’s FIFA ranking and recent World Cup participation make the September meeting a notable opportunity for India, particularly because such matchups are not a regular part of the team’s programme.

Brazil and New Zealand dates follow in busy period

The September 26 friendly is the first scheduled step before India take on Brazil on October 3, followed by two November dates against New Zealand. Together, the listed fixtures are set to give India four matches against nations that appeared at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

“We are looking forward to our players getting the right exposure, and we normally don’t get to play such World Cup teams. So it’s a good FIFA window for us, where we are playing such tough teams,” Satyanarayan added.

That exposure is the central significance of the announced schedule. India will begin with a first-ever match against Panama, then move on to the Brazil fixture before closing the currently listed run with two games against New Zealand.
