Shubhankar Sharma Finishes Tied 60th at British Masters

Shubhankar Sharma closed the Husqvarna British Masters with a four-over-par 76 to finish tied for 60th after an even-par total across four rounds at The Belfry Hotel & Resort.

The Indian golfer had been in contention for a top-10 finish at one stage during the week, but his final-round score moved him down the leaderboard. Sharma’s rounds of 69, 71, 72 and 76 added up to an even-par aggregate over four days.

The result brought a difficult finish to an event in which weather disrupted the opening two days. Sharma was one of two Indian players in the field, with Yuvraj Sandhu missing the cut earlier in the tournament.

Sharma’s four-round British Masters scorecard

Sharma opened his campaign with a 69 before posting rounds of 71 and 72 through the middle of the tournament. Those three rounds kept him in a position where a high finish remained possible, but the closing 76 proved costly.

His four-over final round was his highest score of the week and left him at level par for the championship. The tied-60th finish reflected how quickly the leaderboard changed across a demanding final day at The Belfry.

For Sharma, the event had offered encouraging early positioning, particularly after the 69 in the first round. The subsequent 71 and 72 maintained his even-par trajectory, but he could not convert that foundation into the top-10 finish that had appeared within reach during the week.

The tournament was hosted by Sir Nick Faldo and took place after a weather-affected start, with the first two days interrupted. The conditions created a compressed schedule for the field, with players returning early on Sunday to complete the third round before moving into the final round.

Joe Dean claims maiden DP World Tour title

While Sharma finished level par, England’s Joe Dean won the event for his first DP World Tour title on home soil. Dean completed the third round on Sunday morning, beginning eight shots off the lead and making two birdies to cut the gap to seven before the final round.

Dean then produced a 63, the lowest round of the week, as he made nine more birdies in blustery conditions. He made 11 birdies across 24 holes on the final day and set the clubhouse target at 14 under par.

Marco Penge, Dean’s closest challenger in the final group, was two shots behind on the 12th but could not capitalise on the par-five 15th and 17th. Dean finished three shots clear to secure the title.

Nacho Elvira, Daniel Hillier, Niklas Nørgaard and Jacob Skov Olsen shared second place on 11 under par. Penge, Tom McKibbin and Thomas Rosenmueller were a further shot back.

Dean’s victory marked a notable milestone after he had competed on the EuroPro Tour as recently as 2022 and did not play ranking golf in 2023, despite earning his DP World Tour card through Qualifying School that year. For Sharma, attention now turns to building on the stronger stretches of his British Masters week after a final-round setback ended his hopes of a higher finish.
