Satwik-Chirag Win China Masters Super 750 Title

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the China Masters Super 750 title after producing a three-game comeback against China’s He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu. The Indian men’s doubles pair recovered from a one-sided opening game to claim an 11-21, 21-13, 21-17 victory in a final that lasted one hour and 10 minutes.

The result gave Satwik and Chirag their second title of the season, following their Singapore Open Super 750 success. It also ended their wait for the China Masters crown after runner-up finishes in the 2023 and 2025 editions, with the pair winning on their third appearance in the final.

Indian pair recover after difficult opening game

Satwik and Chirag had chosen ends after winning the toss, but He and Ren made the sharper start. The Chinese pair surged into a 5-0 lead through fast, attacking exchanges and maintained their advantage at 8-3 after a jump smash from He.

The Indians struggled to establish control as their opponents carried a six-point lead into the interval. The deficit then grew to 14-7, with He repeatedly finding success with his smashes. A service fault from Chirag helped He and Ren move 17-9 ahead, and another wide shot from Chirag allowed the Chinese pair to close out the first game 21-11.

The second game brought a decisive response. Satwik and Chirag tightened their defence, lengthened the rallies and used a flick serve to limit the Chinese pair’s opportunities at the front court. They moved in front at 7-6 during a close passage before Chirag’s body smash completed a run of five successive points for a 9-6 lead.

Although a service error from Satwik halted that sequence, Chirag soon produced an interception and a smash to help the Indians take a four-point advantage into the interval. Seven of the final eight points before the break had gone their way.

The greater patience in the exchanges continued to work. Satwik and Chirag won a 45-shot rally to stretch their lead to 12-8, then moved clear at 17-11. A net error from the Chinese duo handed them seven game points, and Satwik finished the game with an attacking return to level the match at one game apiece.

Late surge seals the China Masters crown

He and Ren again began quickly in the deciding game, taking a 4-0 lead and then moving 7-3 ahead. Satwik and Chirag responded through a Chirag smash and a mishit from He, closing to 5-7 before winning four consecutive points to draw level at 7-7.

The Chinese pair regained a two-point lead by the interval, but the Indians stayed close after the resumption. They were within two points at 11-13 and remained in contention at 13-15 following a service error from their opponents. A short serve from Satwik gave He and Ren a 16-14 advantage, but the Indian pair again found a way back to make it 16-16.

He then found the net as Satwik and Chirag moved 18-17 in front. A net cord gave them three match-point chances, and Chirag completed the comeback with a smash to secure the title.

Ranked world No. 5, Satwik and Chirag had reached their third final in 10 tournaments this year. They had also made the Thailand Open Super 500 final and now head towards their Asian Games gold-medal defence in Japan, scheduled to begin on September 19.
