India Thrash Indonesia 17-1 in Asian Games Women’s Hockey

India continued its dominant start to the Asian Games 2026 women’s hockey competition with a 17-1 victory over Indonesia in Pool B at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium on Monday.

The result followed India’s 19-0 win over Uzbekistan and left the Sjoerd Marijne-coached side unbeaten after two matches. India has six points at the top of Pool B and a goal difference of 35, underlining the scale of its opening performances ahead of Wednesday’s match against Thailand.

India build another overwhelming Pool B win

India had to wait until the eighth minute for the opening goal against Indonesia. The team earned four penalty corners in succession during the first quarter, with Deepika converting the last of those opportunities to put India in front.

That breakthrough set up a rapid spell of scoring. India added three more goals in four minutes and finished the opening quarter with a 4-0 lead. The margin continued to grow after the first break as Lalremsiami scored again and India moved into a 9-0 advantage.

Deepika was one of three Indian players to score hat-tricks. Rutuja Pisal and Navneet Kaur also struck three times each in a match that featured goals from across the Indian side.

Sunelita Toppo, Lalremsiami and Sakshi Rana each scored twice. Ishika and captain Salima Tete also found the net as India recorded 17 goals for the second match in a row in Pool B.

Indonesia score in the third quarter

Indonesia’s goal came early in the third quarter and against the run of play. Innes Aditiya flicked the ball past Bichu Devi at the near post to register Indonesia’s only score of the match.

India nevertheless maintained control of the contest and continued adding to its total. Navneet completed her hat-trick in the fourth quarter, firing a powerful backhand shot into the bottom-left corner to cap the 17-1 result.

The victory was India’s second emphatic success of the group stage. After blanking Uzbekistan 19-0, India followed with another high-scoring display against Indonesia while conceding for the first time in the tournament.

Thailand next as India lead the group

India’s two wins have placed the team atop Pool B with six points from two games. The combined scoreline from victories over Uzbekistan and Indonesia is 36-1, giving India a healthy goal difference of 35.

The early results have secured an unbeaten opening to the campaign, though tougher group matches still await. India’s immediate focus turns to Thailand on Wednesday, when the Pool B leaders will look to extend their winning run.

For now, the Indonesia match added another decisive result to India’s Asian Games start. Hat-tricks from Deepika, Rutuja Pisal and Navneet, plus further contributions from six other scorers, ensured India converted its strong position into a comprehensive victory.
