India’s Table Tennis Teams Sweep Pakistan at Asian Games 2026

India’s men’s and women’s table tennis teams both defeated Pakistan 3-0 in their final group-stage fixtures at the Asian Games 2026, sending both sides through to the Round of 16. The women recorded their third consecutive victory, while the men responded after their earlier loss against Iran.

Neither Indian team dropped a game across the two ties. The women’s side sealed its win through straight-game victories from Sutirtha Mukherjee, Syndrela Das and Sreeja Akula, before Harmeet Desai, G. Sathiyan and Payas Jain produced the same 3-0 outcome in the men’s contest.

Women’s team completes a third straight win

Sutirtha Mukherjee gave India an early advantage against Aleena Khan. Mukherjee won 11-3, 11-3, 11-4 and completed her match in 10 minutes, putting India 1-0 ahead in the tie.

Seventeen-year-old Syndrela Das extended the lead to 2-0 with a straight-games result against Kalsoom Khan. Das took the match 11-6, 11-7, 11-5, leaving India one win away from completing the team fixture.

Sreeja Akula then secured the tie for India against Fatima Khan. Akula won 11-4, 11-4, 11-5 in 11 minutes, confirming another 3-0 result for the Indian women’s team and its place in the Round of 16.

The result was India’s third victory in a row in the women’s group-stage campaign. The three players required to face Pakistan each delivered a three-game win, as the tie ended without the need for any further matches.

Men respond after Iran defeat

India’s men entered the fixture following a loss against Iran, but made a decisive start against Pakistan through Harmeet Desai. Desai beat Muhammad Khan 11-4, 11-3, 11-5 to put India ahead.

G. Sathiyan followed with another straight-games victory, defeating Abbas Khan 11-1, 11-8, 11-9. Sathiyan was tested in the third game, but closed out the contest to give India a 2-0 lead in the tie.

Payas Jain, identified as India’s top-ranked paddler, completed the sweep against Muhammad Khan. Jain won 11-2, 11-5, 11-7, ensuring that the men’s team also finished the contest without conceding a game.

Round of 16 place secured

The identical 3-0 wins carry both Indian teams into the Asian Games 2026 Round of 16 after their final group-stage matches against Pakistan. For the women, the result maintained their unbeaten run of three victories. For the men, it provided a response following the defeat to Iran.

India’s men will next face South Korea in the Round of 16. The two team victories over Pakistan featured six individual matches, and every one ended in a straight-games Indian win.
