India Thrash Sri Lanka 16-1 as Jugraj Scores Four at Asian Games

India’s men’s hockey team defeated Sri Lanka 16-1 in their second Pool A match at the Asian Games 2026 on Tuesday, with Jugraj Singh scoring four goals and Abhishek and Dilpreet Singh each registering hat-tricks. The result followed India’s 13-1 victory over Indonesia and continued their high-scoring start in Kakamigahara.

Mandeep Singh opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Jugraj doubled India’s lead with a penalty-corner drag flick. Abhishek struck a minute later, and further goals from Harmanpreet Singh and Abhishek gave India a 5-0 lead by the end of the opening quarter.

India build an eight-goal half-time lead

Jugraj converted another penalty corner in the 22nd minute as India continued to add to their advantage. Sukhjeet Singh and Dilpreet Singh also found the net, with Dilpreet’s first goal taking India to an 8-0 lead at half-time.

India resumed their scoring after the break through Manpreet Singh and Vivek Sagar Prasad. Dilpreet then added his second goal, while Jugraj completed his hat-trick from a penalty stroke. Harmanpreet converted another penalty corner to move the score to 13-0.

Abhishek completed his hat-trick with a back-of-the-stick finish. Sri Lanka then scored in the 50th minute through Suresh Rathnayake, recording their first goal against India in Asian Games history.

Jugraj scored his fourth goal from the spot before Dilpreet completed his hat-trick to confirm the 16-1 final scoreline. Jugraj’s four-goal return led the individual scoring, while Abhishek and Dilpreet contributed three each in another commanding India performance.

South Korea fixture next for India

India head coach Craig Fulton said the opening two matches had provided useful preparation before tougher Pool A fixtures against South Korea and Japan. Fulton said the team needed to use the matches wisely as an opportunity to sharpen its attacking play.

The result leaves India with two emphatic wins from their opening two Asian Games matches, having scored 29 goals across victories over Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Their next match is against South Korea on Thursday, followed by the scheduled pool meeting with Japan.

India’s scoring against Sri Lanka came from Mandeep, Jugraj, Abhishek, Harmanpreet, Sukhjeet, Dilpreet, Manpreet and Vivek Sagar Prasad. Sri Lanka’s response came through Rathnayake, but India completed the match with a 15-goal margin after adding late goals from Jugraj and Dilpreet.
