Asian Games 2026 Day 7: India win shooting gold

India won its first shooting gold of the Asian Games 2026 on Friday, with Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet taking the mixed team 10m air pistol title as the country’s medal tally reached 19.

The shooting success delivered India’s second gold of the Games, following the women’s cricket team’s victory over Sri Lanka in the final earlier in the edition. India had two gold, eight silver and nine bronze medals after Friday’s shooting events, with athletes across shooting, athletics, kabaddi and table tennis contributing to a busy Day 7.

Suruchi and Kamaljeet’s result was particularly significant as it marked India’s first shooting gold of the Games. Shooting also brought a silver medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3P team event through Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil and Niraj Kumar. In the individual final, Aishwary finished fifth and Niraj placed eighth.

Shooting and athletics add to India’s medal tally

Athletics produced three more medals for India. Gulveer Singh claimed silver in the men’s 10,000m, while Manpreet Kaur won bronze in the women’s shot put. Baranica Elangovan added another bronze in the women’s pole vault and created history by becoming India’s first Asian Games medallist in that event.

There was further progress on the track as Vishal TK and Kiran Pahal reached their respective 400m finals. The athletics results added depth to India’s Day 7 programme, which featured medals and advances across several sports.

In kabaddi, both Indian teams booked places in the gold medal matches. The women’s side defeated Nepal 41-23, while the men’s team beat Thailand 66-28. Their victories ensured India would contest both kabaddi finals after decisive semifinal wins.

Table tennis also brought a medal as Manush Shah and Diya Chitale secured bronze in mixed doubles. They lost their semifinal to China’s Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha, but their finish gave India a second Asian Games mixed doubles medal and a fourth table tennis medal overall.

India’s squash players remained in contention in several events. Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh reached the men’s and women’s singles semifinals respectively. Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar advanced to the mixed doubles semifinals, while Veer Chotrani was beaten by Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan.

Final berths and key results across the programme

In badminton, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand recovered to beat Hong Kong 21-16, 16-21, 21-16. Defending champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, however, suffered a first-round defeat to Thailand.

Swimming saw Rishabh Das set a national record of 1:58.77 in the men’s 200m backstroke, where he finished sixth. Sajan Prakash was seventh in the 200m butterfly in his final Asian Games appearance.

Elsewhere, Devi Seram Nirupama finished seventh in the women’s 61kg weightlifting final with a total of 217kg. Boxer Sachin Siwach advanced, while Preeti Pawar lost 0-5 to North Korea’s Pang Choi Mi. India’s women’s hockey team continued its unbeaten group-stage run with a 3-1 win over Japan.

With the first shooting gold secured, medals delivered in athletics and table tennis, and both kabaddi teams through to their title matches, India closed Day 7 with multiple opportunities still alive across the programme.
