Asian Games 2026: India table tennis campaign ends with bronze

India’s table tennis campaign at the Asian Games 2026 ended on Saturday after Manush Shah and Yashaswini Ghorpade were beaten in their respective singles matches. India left the competition with one medal: the mixed doubles bronze won by Shah and Diya Chitale on Friday.

After dropping the first game 11-4, Shah was again beaten 11-4 in the second. He then pushed the third game to 11-9 before Lin completed the straight-games victory with a 12-10 fourth game. The result ended Shah’s singles run at the pre-quarterfinal stage.

In the women’s singles third round, Ghorpade lost 11-5, 4-11, 11-4, 11-5 to Harimoto. Ghorpade responded after losing the opening game by taking the second 11-4, but Harimoto won the next two games to secure the match.

Harimoto’s 11-5 opening game gave the Japanese player an early lead before Ghorpade levelled the contest in the second. The world No. 3 then regained control with an 11-4 third game and sealed the result by taking the fourth 11-5.

With Shah and Ghorpade both out, there were no further Indian singles matches left in the table tennis programme. Their defeats marked the end of India’s participation in the sport at the 2026 Asian Games.

Mixed doubles bronze provides the campaign highlight

India’s medal came in mixed doubles, where Shah and Chitale clinched bronze on Friday. The result was India’s second Asian Games mixed doubles medal, following the bronze won by Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra at Jakarta 2018.
