In the men’s singles competition, Ayush Shetty’s Asian Games campaign ended with a hard-fought quarter-final loss to Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien-Chen. Shetty was beaten 2-1 after a match that went the distance.

Chou took the opening game 21-16, but Shetty responded strongly in the second. The Indian won that game 21-19 to level the contest and take the quarter-final into a deciding third game.

The deciding game was settled 21-17 in Chou’s favour. Chou held on in the final game to complete the 2-1 victory, bringing Shetty’s run in the men’s singles competition to an end.

Shetty’s second-game response ensured that the match remained closely contested after he had fallen behind. However, Chou’s 21-17 result in the decider proved decisive, following the 21-16 and 21-19 results in the first two games.

Sindhu’s advancement provides India with a continuing presence in the women’s singles quarter-finals. Her win over Miyazaki came in two games and was built on the emphatic 21-9 opening-game result, followed by a 21-13 finish.

For Shetty, the narrow second-game win over Chou showed a determined response after the opening-game loss, but it was not enough to extend his tournament. His men’s singles campaign ends at the quarter-final stage.
