Asian Games 2026: Sarvesh and Ancy Claim Athletics Silvers

Sarvesh Kushare and Ancy Sojan won silver medals for India in athletics at the Asian Games 2026, while Tejaswin Shankar, Parul Chaudhary and Harita Bhadra added bronze medals on Sunday. The results delivered medal finishes across the high jump, long jump, decathlon, steeplechase and 200m.

Kushare finished second in the men’s high jump after clearing 2.25m. Ancy took silver in the women’s long jump with a best effort of 6.53m, while Shankar earned third place in the men’s decathlon on 7,934 points. Chaudhary claimed bronze in the women’s 3000m steeplechase and Bhadra finished third in the women’s 200m.

High jump and long jump silvers

Kushare had led the men’s high jump competition for much of the final before finishing second. He cleared 2.25m on his second attempt, while Chinese Taipei’s Chao Hsuan-Fu cleared the same height at the first time of asking. That first-attempt clearance put Chao ahead of Kushare in the final classification.

Ancy also spent much of her final in the lead before a late change at the top of the women’s long jump standings. Her best jump, 6.53m, arrived on her fifth attempt. China’s Huang Yingying then produced a 6.55m effort to move into first place and leave Ancy with silver.

India’s Shaili Singh narrowly missed the podium in the same event. China’s Mengyi Tan recorded 6.46m, while Shaili’s best jump was 6.42m.

The two silver medals came from finals decided by narrow margins. Kushare and Ancy each reached 2.25m and 6.53m respectively, but the eventual winners had the decisive edge through Chao’s first-attempt clearance and Huang’s late 6.55m jump.

Shankar, Chaudhary and Bhadra take bronze

Shankar completed the men’s decathlon with 7,934 points to take bronze. The national record holder began the second day in first place after accumulating 4,338 points. He finished his campaign by winning the 1500m in 4:33.09, closing the multi-event competition with a race victory.

Chaudhary won her second consecutive Asian Games bronze medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase. She clocked a personal best of 9:08.67. Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi won gold in 9:04.36, with Kazakhstan’s Norah Jeruto Tanui taking silver in 9:06.82.

India’s Ankita placed fourth in the steeplechase with a personal-best time of 9:19.24. Chaudhary’s bronze, meanwhile, came with her own personal best and continued her Asian Games medal run in the event.

Earlier in the programme, Bhadra secured bronze in the women’s 200m in 23.20 seconds. Unnathi Aiyappa Bolland finished sixth in 23.48 seconds.

Multiple events deliver Indian medal finishes

India’s athletics results on Sunday featured field-event medals for Kushare and Ancy, a combined-events medal for Shankar and track medals for Chaudhary and Bhadra. The performances also included personal bests from Chaudhary and Ankita, as well as Shankar’s 1500m win to finish the decathlon.

For Kushare, the 2.25m clearance brought a silver medal after a closely contested high jump final. Ancy’s fifth-attempt 6.53m held the lead for much of the long jump final before Huang’s late response. Shankar, Chaudhary and Bhadra then ensured further podium finishes across three separate athletics disciplines.
