India End Asian Games 2026 With Hockey and Cricket Golds

India signed off from the sporting programme at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya with a cricket and hockey gold double, finishing its competition with 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals.

The final-day results took India to 85 medals overall. The team stood fourth in the medal table at the time of the update, although that position was not confirmed because Uzbekistan still had events remaining the following day.

India’s last two team-sport events delivered gold. The men’s cricket side beat Pakistan by 19 runs in the final to retain the Asian Games title, completing a cricket gold double after the women’s team had also won earlier in the Games. The men’s hockey team then defeated Malaysia 5-1 in India’s final event of the competition, retaining its title and completing another gold double after the women’s side ended a 44-year wait for Asian Games gold.

Men’s hockey finish seals a golden double

India’s men took a 2-1 lead into the break against Malaysia in the hockey final, with Harmanpreet Singh and Jugraj Singh on the scoresheet. Malaysia remained within reach at half-time, but India extended the advantage after the restart.

Hardik Singh converted a penalty stroke to make it 3-1. India then created back-to-back penalty corners, although Malaysia cleared both opportunities to keep the margin at two goals for the moment.

Shilanand Lakra added India’s fourth goal to put the final firmly under control. Harmanpreet then scored again from a penalty corner as India completed a 5-1 victory. The result gave India back-to-back men’s hockey gold medals at the Asian Games for the first time.

The hockey victory also carried added significance because it followed the women’s gold earlier in the Games. Together, the two results delivered a historic hockey gold double for India at Aichi-Nagoya.

Cricket had already supplied another major final-day title. India’s men beat Pakistan by 19 runs to retain the Asian Games crown, matching the women’s team’s earlier success and ensuring India left the event with both cricket gold medals.

Individual breakthroughs add to India’s final-day haul

Several individual medals had set the tone for India’s busy final day. Kumkum Mohod won gold in the women’s individual recurve, becoming the first Indian woman to win the Asian Games title in the event. Her victory also secured an Olympic quota for Los Angeles 2028.

Pranavi Urs became the first Indian woman to win individual Asian Games golf gold, while India’s women also collected the team silver. In archery, Neeraj Chauhan won bronze in the men’s individual recurve.

Wrestling added a further gold when Aman Sehrawat defeated North Korea’s Han Chong Song 11-7 in the men’s 57kg freestyle final. Sehrawat’s result improved on the bronze he won at Hangzhou. Antim Panghal took silver in the women’s 53kg category after a 1-9 loss to Japan’s Kiyooka Moe in the final, while Deepak Punia secured bronze in the men’s 97kg division.

India’s campaign had begun unevenly, with near misses and slower medal days, but the final programme brought a surge of results across team and individual events. The cricket and hockey finals provided the closing statement, while the archery, golf and wrestling medals added important landmarks to the final tally.

India’s sporting action at Aichi-Nagoya is now complete ahead of the closing ceremony. The final medal-table position remained subject to the remaining events, but India had secured 21 gold medals and an 85-medal total by the end of its programme.
