Asian Games 2026: India’s Sport-Wise 85-Medal Breakdown
India concluded the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with 85 medals, including 21 gold, to secure fourth place in the final medal table. A nine-medal final day, featuring five gold medals, lifted India above Uzbekistan on silver-medal count and completed the country’s second-best Asian Games haul.
The total fell short of the 106 medals won at the delayed 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, but it represented another substantial multi-sport campaign. Athletics supplied the largest share of medals, while archery, shooting, boxing, wrestling and the team events made major contributions to India’s 21 gold medals.
Athletics leads India’s medal contribution
Athletics was India’s most productive sport at the 2026 Asian Games, producing 24 medals: one gold, nine silver and 14 bronze. The women’s 4x400m quartet of Kiran Pahal, MR Poovamma, Prachi Chaudhary and Vithya Ramraj won India’s lone athletics gold. India’s medal return came despite several athletes and teams being unable to retain titles won in Hangzhou, including the men’s 4x400m team, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Parul Chaudhary and Avinash Sable.
Shooting was next with 15 medals, comprising three gold, eight silver and four bronze. Neeru Dhanda won the women’s trap gold and also teamed with Kynan Chenai to take the mixed trap title. Suruchi Phogat and Kamlajeet added gold in mixed 10m air pistol. The total was lower than India’s 22 shooting medals, including seven gold, at the previous edition, although shotgun results helped maintain the sport’s place among the country’s leading medal sources.
Archery delivered nine medals and five golds, giving India the top position in the sport’s medal tally. India swept the compound team-event gold medals, while Kumkum Mohod led the recurve success with gold in the women’s team and women’s individual events. The archery medals arrived late in the Games and played a key role in India’s push for fourth place.
Boxing produced six medals, split evenly between three golds and three bronzes. Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal won the gold medals on the penultimate day. Wrestling also returned six medals, with Aman Sehrawat and Sujeet Kalkal winning men’s freestyle titles at 57kg and 65kg respectively. India added two silver and two bronze medals in wrestling to finish third in the sport.
Team titles and medals across 16 sports complete the tally
Cricket, hockey and kabaddi accounted for six more gold medals, as India’s men’s and women’s teams won every title available across those three sports. The women’s hockey side beat China 1-0 in the final, while both Indian hockey teams secured qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics through their gold-medal runs.
Squash added five medals, including singles silver medals for Ananat Singh and Abhay Singh. India’s women’s and men’s teams won bronze, while Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar finished with mixed doubles bronze. Sailing contributed three medals: Prince Noble and Manu Francis won silver in men’s 49er, Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma claimed bronze in women’s 49er FX, and Nethra Kumanan earned bronze in women’s dinghy.
Golf returned two medals, highlighted by Pranavi Urs winning India’s first Asian Games golf gold in 24 years in women’s individual strokeplay. Her result, alongside Aditi Ashok’s last-day fightback, helped India take its first women’s team golf medal, a silver. Mirabai Chanu’s women’s 49kg silver was India’s sole weightlifting medal, while Naorem Roshibina Devi won silver in Wushu.
India also secured bronze medals in kurash, MMA, badminton, soft tennis, sepak takraw, table tennis and rowing. Pincky Balhara medalled in kurash, Suchika Tariyal did so in MMA, and India’s men’s badminton team took bronze. Satnam Singh and Salman Khan kept India’s rowing medal streak alive in men’s pair rowing. Manush Shah and Diya Chitale won mixed doubles bronze in table tennis, while sepak takraw and soft tennis brought first-ever Indian medals in the men’s quadrant and through Dev Meena respectively.
