Mirra Andreeva Sets Up Alexandrova Beijing Quarterfinal

Mirra Andreeva will face Ekaterina Alexandrova in the China Open quarterfinals in Beijing after both players delivered commanding straight-set wins in the round of 16 on Tuesday. Fourth seed Andreeva defeated Daria Snigur 6-2, 6-2, before 19th seed Alexandrova beat fifth seed Linda Noskova by the same scoreline.

The meeting gives Andreeva an immediate opportunity to change her record against Alexandrova. Alexandrova has won each of their two previous encounters, at Stuttgart in 2025 and Bad Homburg in 2026. Andreeva said she is excited by the chance to pursue a first victory in the matchup, while Alexandrova said she is trying not to focus on their head-to-head record.

Andreeva advances with a controlled display

Andreeva was first on Centre Court and moved past unseeded Snigur in 1 hour and 3 minutes. Snigur was playing her first WTA 1000 round-of-16 match, but Andreeva kept control of the contest, dropping serve only once and breaking five times in the 6-2, 6-2 result.

The fourth seed finished with 18 winners and 15 unforced errors. Snigur recorded 17 winners but also made 32 unforced errors. Andreeva struck six aces and identified her serve and defensive work as the strongest parts of her performance against an aggressive opponent.

The win sends Andreeva into the Beijing quarterfinals for the second time in her career. Her previous last-eight appearance at the event came in 2024, when she lost to Zheng Qinwen. It is also her 11th quarterfinal appearance on the WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz this season.

Andreeva’s victory was her 48th tour-level win of the season, her highest single-season total to date. According to the event report, only Jessica Pegula, with 50, and Elena Rybakina, with 49, have collected more match wins this year.

After her match, Andreeva returned to the practice court for return work and basic drills. She said the session was her team’s decision and noted that the preparation was geared toward facing big servers and big hitters in the next round.

Alexandrova beats Noskova without losing serve

Alexandrova followed Andreeva onto Centre Court and produced an equally decisive result against Noskova, last year’s Beijing finalist. The 31-year-old completed a 6-2, 6-2 victory in 1 hour and 6 minutes and did not drop serve.

The result puts Alexandrova into the Beijing quarterfinals for the first time. She became the oldest player to reach a maiden China Open quarterfinal in tournament history and the third-oldest player to make the last eight in Beijing, following Serena Williams and Shuai Zhang.

It is Alexandrova’s seventh WTA 1000 quarterfinal overall and her second of the season after Toronto. Her win over Noskova was also the 22nd Top 10 victory of her career and her third this season. Alexandrova said she was pleased with her serve and shots, while noting that sun made the ball difficult to see at the start of the match.

A familiar matchup with a new Beijing setting

The quarterfinal now brings together two players arriving after efficient performances. Andreeva will be looking to turn a 0-2 record against Alexandrova into a first win, having said she and coach Conchita will assess what she can change and introduce in the match.

Alexandrova, however, stressed that previous meetings do not determine the next one. She said every match brings different conditions and that dwelling on the head-to-head can create extra tension and pressure. Their Beijing quarterfinal will decide which player moves on from the China Open last eight.
