Bezzecchi Tops Marquez and Martin in Indonesia MotoGP FP1
Marco Bezzecchi set the early benchmark at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, topping Free Practice 1 with a 1:30.132 to lead Marc Marquez by 0.237 seconds. Jorge Martin completed the top three as the leading trio in the World Championship also occupied the first three places in the opening session on Lombok.
Bezzecchi’s Friday-morning pace gave Aprilia Racing the fastest start to the weekend. The Italian arrived with recent Lombok form, having taken pole position and Sprint victory at the venue last year, and he began this event at the head of the timesheets ahead of Ducati Lenovo Team rider Marquez.
Championship leader Martin ensured that Aprilia had two riders inside the top three. Pedro Acosta was fourth for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, 0.294 seconds behind Bezzecchi’s quickest lap, meaning the championship’s top four riders were also the top four names in FP1.
Aprilia places three bikes in the top five
Raul Fernandez took fifth for SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team, adding a third RS-GP machine to the top five. Aprilia therefore made an immediate mark in the first session, with Bezzecchi first, Martin third and Fernandez fifth.
The session’s next two positions went to Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team riders Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio. Morbidelli finished sixth and Di Giannantonio seventh, putting both VR46 entries ahead of Fabio Quartararo, who was eighth on the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP machine.
Fermin Aldeguer ended FP1 ninth for BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP despite crashing during the session. The rider who won at Lombok last year was reported uninjured after the incident and remained inside the top 10. His teammate Alex Marquez completed the opening-session top 10.
Ai Ogura was the other crasher in FP1. The SuperFiles Trackhouse MotoGP Team rider was also uninjured in his separate incident, but he finished 21st after the fall. His result contrasted with teammate Fernandez’s fifth place and left the Trackhouse pair at opposite ends of the classification.
Title contenders set the opening order
The opening practice established a notable early pattern for the Indonesian weekend: Bezzecchi, Marquez and Martin, the top three in the championship battle, were first, second and third on track. Acosta’s fourth place reinforced that link between the title picture and the initial FP1 order.
For Bezzecchi, the 1:30.132 is the first session’s reference time and gives Aprilia Racing the early advantage before the afternoon Practice. Marquez begins in close pursuit after finishing 0.237 seconds back, while Martin starts third as the World Championship leader.
Behind them, the spread of machinery in the top 10 included Aprilia, Ducati, KTM and Yamaha, while the three Aprilias in the first five underlined the manufacturer’s productive start. The afternoon Practice is next on the weekend schedule, with Bezzecchi carrying the fastest FP1 time into the later session.
