Sachin Baisoya Targets DP World India Championship Opportunity
Sachin Baisoya will take a home-course opportunity into the DP World India Championship in Delhi, with the Indian golfer set to compete in a USD 4 million event featuring a field led by Rory McIlroy and seven Major champions.
Baisoya, who was unable to play in last year’s edition, said he is pleased to have earned his place this time. The tournament is set to begin on Thursday and will include a 27-member Indian challenge led by experienced players Shubhankar Sharma and Anirban Lahiri.
For Baisoya, the event brings both the prospect of competing alongside prominent international players and familiarity with the course where he plays regularly. He said his focus is not on setting a specific target, but on giving his full effort and playing his own game.
Home-course familiarity offers Baisoya a chance
Speaking ahead of the championship, Baisoya said missing the previous edition made this opportunity particularly meaningful. He thanked IGPL and A.M. Grin while describing the course as his home layout.
“I couldn’t participate last time as well, but this time I have been able to participate,” Baisoya said. “I would like to thank IGPL, A.M. Grin, because this is my home course and I have got the opportunity to play in this golf course.”
He believes that regular exposure to the 18 holes can provide an advantage. Baisoya said players who know the course understand “what to do, how to do it,” adding that familiarity can offer a little benefit in different aspects of the test.
The Indian golfer also acknowledged the scale of the field assembled for the event. McIlroy and Ryan Fox were among the players he identified while calling it “a very elite field.” The championship gives domestic players a chance to compete in the same tournament as established names from the wider game.
Baisoya said he had long wanted to play with golfers such as McIlroy and Tommy, describing the chance to be in the field with them as the fulfilment of a dream. The immediate task, however, is to make the most of the opportunity rather than look too far ahead.
“I don’t have any target, I just have to give my 100% and play my game,” he said.
European Tour ambition remains part of the plan
Baisoya also outlined what a strong performance in Delhi could mean for his longer-term ambitions. He said that if he plays well and earns a card on the European Tour, he would compete there, practise and seek to improve on his current level.
Asked about a timeframe for reaching that stage, Baisoya said he wants to improve his game over the next one to two years. His comments place the DP World India Championship within a broader development goal, while keeping the attention on progress rather than a fixed outcome.
The event also highlights the role Baisoya believes IGPL has played for domestic golfers. He said the initiative has done a lot for Indian players, pointing to the presence of 27 Indians in the field. When asked whether he considered himself fortunate, Baisoya answered yes and noted that he was among the top 27.
With the DP World India Championship about to begin, Baisoya enters with local course knowledge, a field packed with Major-winning experience and a clear personal objective: to play his game, give his best effort and use the week as a step toward further improvement.
