Harmanpreet Kaur Makes Unbeaten 91 Against Zimbabwe
Harmanpreet Kaur produced an unbeaten 91 from 41 balls against Zimbabwe in the third and final T20, ending a 10-match stretch without a half-century with a powerful innings that left the former India captain emotional during her post-innings television interview.
The right-handed batter hit 10 fours and five sixes in her 91 not out, with several of her biggest shots coming straight down the ground. The innings marked a significant individual return after a run in which she had not reached fifty in her previous 10 matches.
Harmanpreet had also endured a quieter period in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup and at the Asian Games, although India won both events comfortably. Her response against Zimbabwe came after she had stepped down as India captain across formats ahead of the home T20I series.
An innings built on time in the middle
Speaking to the broadcaster at the innings break, Harmanpreet said the priority had been to enjoy her batting and make the most of her time at the crease. She said: “It feels great. Just wanted to enjoy myself, and great that I got some time in the middle and really enjoyed myself on the field.”
That simple objective translated into a rapid unbeaten score. Across 41 deliveries, Harmanpreet found the boundary 15 times, combining 10 fours with five sixes. The volume of boundary hitting underlined the impact of an innings that provided her first half-century in 11 matches.
The 37-year-old was unable to hold back tears when she later spoke with the on-air commentators. WV Raman, a former head coach of the Indian women’s team, was part of the discussion as Harmanpreet reflected on being encouraged to play with freedom.
“I just wanted to enjoy myself, just wanted to bat as long as possible, and glad that I was able to do that,” she said. “I think should give credit to you also (to WV Raman).”
Harmanpreet recalled the message she received after arriving in the set-up, adding: “The moment we came, you stepped in and you said, ‘Now you do what you want to do,’ and that’s what I want to do, and really want to enjoy myself. Thanks for those words.”
Why the 91 mattered for Harmanpreet
The unbeaten 91 mattered beyond the score itself because it brought a long-awaited major contribution from a batter who had been searching for one. Her previous 10 matches had passed without a half-century, making the third T20 against Zimbabwe an important chance to spend time in the middle and convert that opportunity into a substantial innings.
Harmanpreet also linked the performance to work completed after the Asian Games. She specifically thanked her batting coach, Himanshu, for his contribution during the period in the nets.
“After the Asian Games, I got some time in the nets,” Harmanpreet said. “I really want to thank Himanshu bhaiya (her batting coach), who’s been working really hard on me and today’s batting was all him.”
Her remarks gave the innings an especially personal tone. The combination of a 41-ball unbeaten 91, 10 fours, five sixes and an emotional interview made the performance the defining individual moment of the final T20 against Zimbabwe.
