Pranav Venkatesh Wins 2026 World Junior Blitz Title

India’s Pranav Venkatesh has been crowned champion of the 2026 FIDE World Junior Blitz Championship, securing the title with 10.5 points from 13 rounds in the United Arab Emirates on Friday.

The 20-year-old from Chennai finished one full point ahead of the three players who shared second place on 9.5 points. The blitz title adds another major result to Pranav’s junior career, coming only days after he collected a silver medal in the rapid section of the world junior championships.

Pranav had also been crowned junior world champion in the classical time control last year. His latest success means he has now added the World Junior Blitz crown to a sequence of leading results across the classical, rapid and blitz formats.

Pranav finishes clear at the top in blitz

Pranav’s total of 10.5 points across 13 rounds proved decisive in the championship. With three players tied on 9.5 points, the Indian player had a one-point margin at the top of the final standings.

The victory was his second medal-winning performance of the event after his silver in the rapid competition. The result also follows his classical-format world junior title from last year, underlining a productive stretch in major junior events.

The 2026 FIDE World Junior Blitz Championship brought together a 13-round contest in which every point carried significance. Pranav’s 10.5-point finish was enough to separate him from the nearest challengers and confirm the world title.

For Indian chess, the result provided another notable performance in the junior world championship programme. Pranav emerged as the champion in the open blitz competition, while Indian players also featured strongly in the women’s blitz event.

Aamuktha Guntaka was the best-performing Indian in the women’s blitz championship. She finished fourth after scoring nine points from 13 rounds, narrowly missing a place among the medal positions.

IM Savitha Shri placed seventh in the women’s blitz with 8.5 points. Savitha had earlier starred during India’s medal win at the 2026 Chess Olympiad, and she had also been India’s top performer in the FIDE Women’s World Junior Rapid Championship, where she finished ninth with 5.5 points.

Indian players make their mark across the championships

Pranav’s gold, combined with his earlier rapid silver, gave India a leading presence across the two time controls. His blitz triumph was built on a final total that left him clear of the group in second, while Aamuktha and Savitha supplied additional top-10 finishes in the women’s event.

The title is particularly significant for Pranav because it extends his record at the junior world level beyond one format. After winning the classical crown last year, he returned to the world junior stage to take silver in rapid and gold in blitz.

With 10.5 points from 13 rounds, Pranav completed the event as the 2026 FIDE World Junior Blitz champion. The final standings also recorded Aamuktha in fourth place on nine points and Savitha in seventh on 8.5, rounding out a strong set of Indian results in the blitz championships.
