Monaco Go Top as Paris FC Cruise Past Nice in Ligue 1

Monaco moved to the top of Ligue 1 with a 2-0 victory over Marseille on Sunday, powered by two goals from Paris Brunner. The result left Monaco with the division’s only remaining perfect record after two matches, while Paris FC claimed a 3-0 home win against Nice to rise into second place.

Brunner, the 20-year-old German forward, struck once in each half for Monaco. His performance proved decisive in a match that put Monaco alone at the summit after the opening two rounds of the league season.

Brunner double sends Monaco clear

Monaco made the breakthrough in the 13th minute. Captain Aleksandr Golovin delivered a cross from the right and Brunner headed home to give the visitors the lead over Marseille.

The second goal arrived nine minutes after half-time. Brunner cut inside Marseille centre-backs Geoffrey Kondogbia and CJ Egan-Riley before shooting past goalkeeper Jeffrey De Lange. That finish completed the 2-0 result and secured Monaco’s second win from two league matches.

Monaco coach Filipe Luis praised Brunner’s approach after the match, highlighting the forward’s work in training and on the pitch. “Since I joined, he’s been the type of player who expresses himself on the pitch, in training, with goals, pressing, tracking back — he wants to learn,” Filipe Luis said.

The Monaco coach added that Brunner’s future would depend on continuing to show that same drive. “That’s the way he is. It’s all up to him if he wants to keep doing his talking on the pitch,” he said. “As long as he keeps doing that, he’ll be there. He’s very young, I’m really happy with the way he played.”

Filipe Luis also stressed the importance of ambition and passion for the young scorer. “But the most important thing is that he remains ambitious, passionate, because he is passionate when he plays and I love that,” he said.

For Monaco, the significance of the win is clear in the early standings picture: they are now the only club to have maintained a flawless start through two Ligue 1 fixtures. Brunner’s two-goal contribution was central to that position.

Paris FC respond with three goals against Nice

In the capital, Paris FC followed their opening goalless draw at Troyes with a commanding 3-0 victory over Nice. Newly recruited Malian striker Lassine Sinayoko opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 20th minute.

Paris FC extended their advantage after 51 minutes when Samir Chergui finished a blistering counter-attack. Vincent Marchetti then made sure of the result late in the match, pouncing on a loose ball to complete the 3-0 scoreline.

The victory lifted Paris FC into second place. Lionel Rosenior, formerly Strasbourg boss, had returned to France following his experience at Chelsea and oversaw the emphatic home result after the draw at Troyes in the first match of the campaign.

Elsewhere, Rennes climbed to fifth after beating Le Mans 3-2. Esteban Lepaul scored twice for Rennes, including the winning penalty deep into injury time. Louis Mafouta scored both of Le Mans’ goals, but Rennes held on for the victory.
