Cristiano Ronaldo Error Costs Al-Nassr Goal in Abha Win

Cristiano Ronaldo’s instruction during an Abha Club free-kick backfired as Al-Nassr conceded in their Saudi Pro League match, but his side still secured a 2-1 victory. Ronaldo had earlier scored Al-Nassr’s opening goal, his 979th official career goal, as the club collected its fifth win in six games of the 2026-27 campaign.

The decisive incident involving the defensive setup came in the 75th minute, when Abha were awarded a free-kick from the wing. Al-Nassr had initially placed two players in a wall at the edge of the penalty area, with other defenders positioned centrally in the box alongside Abha players.

Abha’s 75th-minute goal did not change the final outcome. It proved to be a consolation as Al-Nassr held on for a 2-1 result. The win gave Al-Nassr 15 points and left them joint-top of the Saudi Pro League table alongside Al-Hilal and Al-Qadsiah.

For Ronaldo, the match contained both a notable individual scoring milestone and the high-profile defensive error. His first-half goal had put Al-Nassr ahead in the 22nd minute. He rose to meet a corner and headed the ball in to open the scoring.

That header was Ronaldo’s 979th official goal as he continues his pursuit of 1,000 official career goals. The 41-year-old remains central to Al-Nassr’s season, and his goal helped establish the lead that ultimately enabled the team to withstand Abha’s late response.
