P V Sindhu powered into the women’s singles quarterfinals of the Hylo Open Super 500 on Thursday, beating France’s Rosy Oktavia Pancasari 21-9, 21-6 in a one-sided second-round contest that lasted only 26 minutes.

The second seed delivered a commanding straight-game performance, taking 42 of the 57 points played and allowing Pancasari only 15 points across the match. The result keeps Sindhu’s campaign alive after she had already defeated Prakriti Bharath in the opening round.

Sindhu will next face Amalie Schulz in the quarterfinals. Her progress was the major positive for the Indian contingent in women’s singles on Thursday, with Malvika Bansod and Isharani Baruah both exiting in the second round.

Sindhu dominates second-round contest

The scoreline reflected Sindhu’s control from the outset. She won the opening game 21-9 before completing the victory with an even more emphatic 21-6 second game.

Across the two games, Sindhu conceded just nine points in the first and six in the second. Her 42-point total from 57 points played underlined the scale of the advantage in a match completed in less than half an hour.

The win follows Sindhu’s runner-up finish at the French Open and sends the former world champion into the last eight of the Hylo Open Super 500. As the second seed, she remains among the leading players in the women’s singles draw and has now moved one step closer to the closing stages of the tournament.

Her upcoming quarterfinal against Schulz is the next assignment after a brisk route through the first two rounds. Sindhu began her campaign with a win over Prakriti Bharath and followed it with the decisive result against Pancasari.

The tournament matters as another opportunity for Sindhu to build on her recent French Open run. Thursday’s result was notable not only for the straight-game margin but also for the limited time required to secure a place in the quarterfinals.

Mixed day for Indian women’s singles players

Malvika Bansod was unable to join Sindhu in the quarterfinals, losing 11-21, 17-21 to Canada’s Wen Yu Zhang in 31 minutes. Bansod struggled to match Zhang’s intensity in the opening game, according to the match account, but improved in the second before falling short of forcing a decider.

Isharani Baruah also bowed out after a 14-21, 19-21 defeat to Denmark’s eighth seed Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt. Their match lasted 39 minutes. Baruah mounted a stronger challenge in the second game, reaching 19 points, but Kjaersfeldt closed out the contest in straight games.

More Indian players were due to take the court later on Thursday. Sixth seed Unnati Hooda was scheduled to face Denmark’s Frederikke Ostergaard, while India’s top-ranked men’s singles player Lakshya Sen was set for an all-Indian match against Kiran George. In another women’s singles fixture, Anmol Kharb was scheduled to play Denmark’s third seed Line Christophersen.

For Sindhu, however, the immediate focus is the quarterfinal against Schulz. After conceding only 15 points to Pancasari and finishing her second-round match in 26 minutes, she enters the last eight with a clear statement of form at the Hylo Open Super 500.
