Friday’s defeat adds another setback to a challenging period for Valencia. The club has a long history in Spanish football, having won six La Liga titles, with the last of those championships coming more than 20 years ago.

Valencia also reached consecutive Champions League finals during that earlier era. However, the club’s standing has changed substantially since then, and it has not qualified for European competition for seven years.

That broader context makes the current league position especially stark. Valencia remain bottom after five matches, having lost four times, while the latest defeat came through a goal conceded late in the game.
