JK Tyre Rally of Himalayas 2026 Enters Zanskar for First Time

The J&K Bank presents JK Tyre Rally of Himalayas 2026 was flagged off from Manali on September 26, beginning a five-day cross-country event that will enter the Zanskar region for the first time. The sixth edition of the rally features 140 competitors across Moto, Extreme and Time, Speed, Distance categories, adding a new chapter to one of India’s Himalayan motorsport events.

The route will take competitors through Kaza, Jispa, Padum and Pensi La before concluding in Padum, Zanskar, on September 30. Its first move into Zanskar is the defining development of the 2026 rally, introducing competitors to new high-altitude terrain, remote roads and extended competitive sections across the Himalayan region.

The event is organised by Himalayan Xtreme Motorsports and Adventure X Fusion Tribe. It combines competition with a wider focus on adventure tourism, with the new route intended to highlight Zanskar’s landscapes, driving routes and potential as a destination for motorsport enthusiasts and adventure travellers.

140 competitors set for demanding five-day route

The 2026 field is spread across three categories. The Moto category includes 80 riders, with one woman competitor among the entrants. The Extreme category has 35 participants, including two women drivers and five Army teams. A further 24 competitors are listed in the TSD category, where four women will compete in an event based on precision, timing and navigation.

The rally’s route through Kaza, Jispa, Padum and Pensi La presents a significant endurance and preparation test. The changing Himalayan conditions are expected to place a premium on navigation, reliability and readiness across the different categories. For TSD competitors in particular, timing and navigation are central to the format, while the overall route takes every field through demanding mountain terrain.

The addition of Zanskar expands the geographical scope of the Rally of Himalayas. First held in 2021, the event has developed as a competition platform for professional drivers and riders, private entrants, women competitors and Army teams. The 2026 edition continues that mix while bringing a new destination into the rally itinerary.

This year’s rally is also being held as a tribute to Hari Singh, the five-time National Rally Champion known as the ‘Gypsy King’. The tribute forms part of an edition that links the event’s motorsport programme with the communities and destinations along its route.

Zanskar route puts adventure tourism in focus

The Department of Tourism, Union Territory of Ladakh, is partnering with the rally as it seeks to promote Zanskar as an adventure tourism destination. The department aims to showcase the region’s landscape, cultural heritage and driving routes to motorsport followers, adventure travellers and travel influencers.

J&K Bank is the presenting sponsor, with JK Tyre serving as title sponsor. Ladakh Tourism is the official sponsor, while Impulse and Liqui Moly are partners. J&K Bank has linked its support to regional livelihoods, enterprise and tourism, stating that the rally offers an opportunity to present the Himalayan region’s tourism potential and support local economic growth.

For JK Tyre, the event continues an Indian motorsport association spanning nearly three decades. The company has supported racing platforms and talent development across disciplines, while the Rally of Himalayas remains part of its wider motorsport presence.

As the field progresses from Manali towards Padum, the inaugural Zanskar entry gives the 2026 edition its most important point of difference. The five-day rally is designed to bring visibility to the region while putting competitors through a route defined by high altitude, distance, navigation and endurance.
