India defeated the West Indies by 14 runs in the third T20 International at Holkar Stadium in Indore, defending 223 after being bowled out in their 20 overs. The West Indies, chasing a target of 224, finished on 209 for seven in their allotted 20 overs.

The result gives India the advantage after three matches of the five-match T20 International series. India had begun the series with a win before the West Indies levelled it at 1-1 with a six-wicket victory in Ranchi in the second match.

India defend 223 in Indore

Put into bat, India were all out for 223 in 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma led the innings with 69 runs from 30 balls, providing the standout contribution in India’s total.

The total set the West Indies a target of 224, and the visitors were required to score at more than 11 runs an over across the full 20 overs to complete the chase. They reached 209 for seven, falling 14 runs short of India’s total.

Shimron Hetmyer was the West Indies’ top scorer with 43 runs. His innings was the highest individual score in the chase, but the visitors were unable to take their score beyond 209 before the completion of the innings.

India’s 223 and the West Indies’ 209 for seven meant the match produced 432 runs across the two innings. India’s final margin was 14 runs, with the home side successfully protecting the target they had set after being asked to bat first.

The third T20I followed a high-scoring second match in Ranchi, where the West Indies had chased 250. In that game, they made 252 for four in 18.3 overs to win by six wickets and draw level in the series after India’s opening-match victory.

Five-match series moves forward

With India winning the third match, the five-game contest moves on with India holding the series edge. The Indore result came after the two sides had shared the opening two fixtures, making the third T20I an important response for India following the Ranchi defeat.

For India, the key numbers from the Indore match were 223 all out, Abhishek Sharma’s 69 off 30 balls and a successful defence that limited the West Indies to 209 for seven. For the West Indies, Hetmyer’s 43 was the leading score in a chase that ended 14 runs short.

The series now continues with two T20 Internationals remaining. India will carry the momentum from their Indore victory, while the West Indies will look to respond after their chase of 224 did not reach the required total.
