Bengaluru to Host FIBA Women’s Basketball League Asia 2026
Bengaluru will host the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Asia 2026 from October 20 to 25, bringing six of the continent’s leading women’s club teams together for the title. Indian Railways, the national champions, will represent India in what is described as a historic debut at the competition.
The tournament gives Bengaluru another major FIBA event and places Indian Railways alongside clubs from Japan, South Korea, China, the Philippines and Chinese Taipei. The six-team field underlines the international scope of the event, with the host city set to welcome a range of established women’s basketball sides from across Asia.
Six clubs confirmed for Bengaluru event
Indian Railways will be joined by Denso Iris of Japan, Cheongju KB Stars of South Korea, Sichuan Yuanda Meile of China, Akari Sparks of the Philippines and Cathay Life Tigers of Chinese Taipei.
The participating clubs will compete in Bengaluru across six days, from October 20 through October 25. Indian Railways enter the event as India’s national champions, while the visiting teams represent five other basketball nations and territories from the region.
Each team will feature two imported players from the United States, Australia and Europe, a competition detail that adds further international representation to the tournament field. The event will therefore combine Asian women’s club teams with overseas players across the six competing squads.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said Bengaluru was honoured to host another FIBA competition. He described the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Asia 2026 as a proud moment for Karnataka and said the tournament reflected a commitment to promoting sport and providing athletes with opportunities to compete at the highest level.
The announcement also puts focus on the women’s club game in India, with Indian Railways set to take part on home soil. Their inclusion means the national champions will contest a continental event against opponents from several of Asia’s prominent domestic basketball environments.
A continental platform for women’s club basketball
K Govindaraj, president of FIBA Asia and secretary of the Karnataka State Basketball Association, said the league would bring together some of the strongest women’s club teams in the region. He said the competition was an important platform for showcasing the growing strength of women’s basketball in Asia.
For Bengaluru, the October event provides an opportunity to host a six-club continental competition in the women’s game. For Indian Railways, it marks a historic appearance at the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Asia, with the national champions included in a field featuring clubs from Japan, South Korea, China, the Philippines and Chinese Taipei.
